                   OBITUARY: Mrs. Althea Bailey
The lady who spoke to school children,library groups and garden clubs about birds and wild life, Mrs. Althea V. Bailey of West Bay Road, Lake Grove, died Monday in a convalescent home. The committal service will be at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at the Riverview cemetery. A memorial service will be held in the First Unitarian church,where she was a member at 1 p.m. Sunday
Mrs. Bailey was born in Trenton, Wis. March 31, 1878.  She came to Portland with her husband, the late Berton L. Bailey in 1902.  He was one of the early mill builders and lumbermen of the northwest.
She was devoted to the study of nature, her yard was planted to attract birds and wild life. She came to Lake Grove about 1939, she had worked for the Oswego Garden store and for Edgar L. Kline, the lily wholesaler. She was an active member of the Audubon Society, both state and national, and had attended some of the national summer camps. She also was a member of the Oregon Humane Society, The Defenders of Wild Life, and supported all measures for the conservation of our natural resources.  She gave many talks an birds, wild flowers and wild life to children and groups in the Lake Oswego area.
Mrs. Bailey is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Frances Faye von Schmidt of Lake Oswego;  two sons, Van Evera Bailey of Lake Oswego,  and Lawrence D.  Bailey;  two grandsons Berton M.  Bailey who recently moved from Lake Oswego to Salem,  and Robert L.  Bailey.  four great grandchildren also survive.

Graveside services for Althea V. Bailey, 83, Lake Oswego, who died Monday in a convalescent home, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Riverview Cemetery with arrangements by J. P. Finley & Son, Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in First Unitarian Church of which she was a member.

Mrs. Bailey was born March 31, 1878, in Trenton, Wis., and moved to Portland in 1902. She was avtive in conservation of local resources and wild life and lectured before school children, library groups, bird and garden clubs. She was active in support of the Audobon Society, both state and national.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Frances Faye von Schmidt, Lake Oswego, two sons, Lawrence D., Enterprise, and Van Evera, Portland; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
