The marriage date of 12 Mar 1846 was documented by Pamela Walker in "Marriage Records 1834-1850 for Benton County, Alabama," (976.163 v2mc v. 1) and also in "Benton County, Alabama Marriage Book I 1834-1850," (976.163 v2b v. 1) in the Salt Lake Geeological Library in Oct. 1994. Dr. Don Whiteside and Foster Clay Whiteside have marriage as 4/12/1846. This information came from research done by Nona Agnes Gay. One pedigree chart gives the name Jonathon L. and his birth date as 21 Mar 1825. On another pedigree chart, also prepared by Nona Agnes Gay, the name is John Leander and the birth date is 21 Mar 1823. Both charts agree that he died in 1863. According to Thomas Thompson, Jonathan Leander Whiteside died at the Academy Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Also received information from a transcript by Dr. Don Whiteside and Foster Clay Whiteside.
He married Ruth or Ruthy Hemphill 4 May 1819 at Burke, North Carolina . Ruth or Ruthy Hemphill was born at Old Fort, Burke, North Carolina 6 May 1794 daughter of Thomas Hemphill and Mary Ann Mackey .
