Hello CharlesAccording to the transcription I have from the cemetery ofTrinity Anglicn Church in Westminster Twp., Ontario, Hannah Sutton Morden died March 11, 1861 at the age of 87 years, which means she was born in 1773 or 1774. Is your Hannah Sutton b. 1762 the same person?(I'm a Sutton from Westminster).Diane Bourgault

We may be related. According to my grandfather, the Hannah Sutton who married John Morden, son of Ralph and grandson of Anne Durham Morden, was a sister to our ancestor John Sutton. John Sutton apparently bought some land (Lot 18, conc. 1, West Flamborough Twp.) from John Morden. Both families eventually moved to Westminster Twp., Ontario.Do you have any information about Hannah Sutton that could prove or disprove this connection? According to our family records, Hannah would have been the daughter of William Sutton of New Jersey, but we have no records of his having a daughter called Hannah. There was an Anna and a Johanna - could the names have been confused over the years? Thanks for any help you can give.Diane B.

Hey Diane Yes, we are related I am in the midst of awesome discoveries in the Sutton line--- I actually have Suttons on both sides--- the Hannah name often was Anna, Ann, or ? Seems the New Jersy link has many connections back in England with royal lines--- way back--- the Suttons were lionked back in England with the Mordens, Durhams, and more.....(to say the least)... Feel free to write me at Ireland719@aol.com---look forward to hearing more about your family... My grandfather, Harold Jack Coyne Ireland immigrated back to the US in 1926. His grandmother was Eleanor Morden Coyne. Her husband, Isaac Coyne was a hotel operator in Mount Forest. His father Henry Coyne was a settler in Dunwich, Ontario, after moving from New York's Hudson Valley. Until later, John

Hello to all Morden cousins from Chicago I wish to share the discovered ancestry of Hannah Sutton who married John Morden, son of Ralph & Ann Durham Morden. Hannah Sutton is part of the New Jersey Sutton family connected with both my mom & dad's lines Hannah's Quaker stock had originally settled in Plymouth Colony/Scituate, Massachusetts with greats William Sutton & Damaris Bishop. Hannah was daughter of William Sutton & either Mary Robbins or Ann Hawkins of 18th century Sussex County, New Jersey---where George Morden & Elinor Emans Robeson lived. I am also hoping to discover George Morden's first wife's name---mother to Ralph & the rest of the immigratng Mordens of 1743. Hannah's line has been extensively researched & ties with ancient royals. I am also descended through John & Hannah's son James who married Elizabeth McGarvin. Elizabeth was orphaned after her parents were killed by Natives. I recently had info. sent to me possibly linking Elizabeth to Patrick McGarvin of Kent, Ontario whose family originally immigrated from Ireland. I am wondering, too, if any connect the MORDEN with MORDAUNT, an ancient family of England I also have ancestry with.... Happy hunting all, John Ireland in Chicago:):):)

I may have foud a solution to a problem which has puzzled me for a few years.John Morden, son of Ralph and Anne Durham Morden, married a Hannah Sutton, but no one seemed to have information about her parents. My family said that Hannah was the sister of my ggg grandfather, John Sutton, of New Jersey and Ontario, but our written records showed no Hannah in that generation, only a Joanna, and an Anna.I just found a book at HeritageQuest Online, calledAbstracts of divisions of Warren and Sussex County Estates filed at Sussex County courthouse, Newton, New Jersey, from 1789-1918, by Frederick R. Alleman, page 16, CA 165in which the heirs of William Sutton are listed as follows:Elizabeth, w/o David CumminsJohn SuttenJoanna, w/o John MardenMary, w/o Rebut AlbertsonAnna, w/o William SharpeMicajah SuttenPrudence, w/o Ebenezer DrakeKeziah, w/o Clerkson ShotwellMargaret SuttenJerusha, w/o Peter CooleRecorded November 11, 1816(I have copied the spelling exactly as it was in the original)From this, it looks as if Hannah and Joanna are the same person. The parents of John and Joanna/Hannah were William and Anne Hawkins of Sussex County, New Jersey. The family moved to the Dundas Ontario area in 1800, and then to Westminster Twp., Middlesex County, Ont. in 1818.Is my theory plausible?Diane Bourgault

Hello to all My greats include Hannah Sutton, daughter of Ann Hawkins and Williams Sutton. Hannah married Quaker John Morden. The Morden family immigrated to Canada, after John's father had been executed wrongly for treason in Easton, PA on November 25, 1780. William Sutton was son of Miss Mercer (first wife) and Jonas Sutton. Jonas Sutton was son of Sarah Runyon and Richard Sutton. Sarah's parents were Ann Boucher & Vincent Runyon, immigrant French Huguenots. Richard was son of Damaris Bishop & William Sutton. William was son of Sarah Tilden & George Sutton, the immigrant ancestor from Tenterden, Kent, England. My line through Hannah Sutton & John Morden continues with Elizabeth McGarvin & James Morden, parents of Eleanor Morden. Eleanor married Isaac Coyne. Eleanor & Isaac gave birth to my great-grandmother Hannah Ida Harriet Coyne who married John Smith Ireland. Hannah was named for Hannah Sutton. Hannah & John, of Mount Forest, Ontario gave me my Pop Ireland, Harold Jack Coyne Ireland. He married Merney Agatha Augusta Eberle of Houghton, MI. They were parents of my dad Jack Coyne Ireland who married my mom, Barbara Jean Williams, born in Cleveland, OH. Their families moved to Chicago where I was born.I am hoping to find out more of the parents of Ann Hawkins as well as Miss Mercer...
