I would like to know if you have any other Robb info/ Like as to their roots-Irish or German. And if Thomas's father Robt. Had any other Brothers in the area. I know of a Joseph and a John in the Washington Co. area. There were several Robb families in Western Pa. all near Washington Co. Fayette,Westmoreland ,Greene and Allegheney. I am looking for a Robert Robb of Hannastown,Pa. I think all the Robb's migrated from Chester/Lancaster area early in the 1800's or even in the late 1700's . Thank you. Dua

Subject: ROBB surnamed ancestry research
Hello,
My name is Don French & I am trying to connect several branchs of ROBB surnamed folks that are my distant ancestors. I found five people in Ancestry.com, OneWorldTree and decided that I would send an email to each of them asking the same questions.
The information I have is in some cases scant, in some cases modest and in one case rather extensive, however, Ive been unable to find any common link, except in a very tenuous way, to link these folks together. I have also been unable to follow these folks back from whence they came or to ascertain who their parents/siblings were.
My earliest known ROBB ancestor is an emigrant, Joseph ROBB and his sons John, William & Andrew, who came to Lancaster Co. Pa., around 1740.
Possibly related to this line is an Andrew ROBB, who in 1850, was an elderly gentleman farming a plot of land next to my 2nd gr. grandfather, Ross TAGGART who was farming in Raccoon Twp., Beaver Co. Pa.
Next is a Joseph ROBB, b. Dec 1808 in Pa., possibly in Beaver Co., who married Mary Ann RAMBO in Mar 1834 in Muskingum Co. Ohio. The couple had two children and Mary Ann died. Joseph then married Hannah TAGGART, sister of Ross TAGGART around 1840 in Ohio and they had four children, with the last child being born in Monroe Co. Iowa in Feb 1850, the others being born in or around Logan Co. Ohio. In a Civil War Pension File record, it is recorded that Joseph ROBBs fathers name was Andrew and that Joseph ROBB had a brother Andrew, married to a Jane ??. There was also an uncle to Joseph ROBB named James M. ROBB who, in 1891, was 55 years old and a Justice of the Peace in Albia, Monroe Co., Iowa.
Joseph ROBB married for a third time to a Nancy MCDONALD in Monroe Co. Iowa in Jun 1863. There were no children from this marriage and Joseph ROBB then moved to Oregon, then Washington, where he died in Aug 1900 and is buried in Tacoma, Wash.
Finally, there is George ROBB, b. circa. 1796 in Pa., married Jane GEORGE in Sep. 1829 and they had seven children. George died in Nov 1861 and is buried in Washington Co. Pa. where he lived with his family at least since 1850.
I am in possession of a copy of a letter written some time in the 1930s wherein it is stated that the Andrew ROBB living in Beaver Co. Pa. in 1850 is the father of Joseph ROBB who married Hannah TAGGART, but of this I have no proof.
What I am trying to ascertain is whether or not the emigrant Joseph ROBB, thru his sons listed above or thru additional sons, poss. another Joseph and a Samuel are the direct ancestors of the Andrew ROBB living in Beaver Co. Pa. in 1850 and is the Andrew ROBB living in Beaver Co. Pa. in 1850 the father of Joseph ROBB who married Hannah TAGGART. Further, I would like to find out about any additional siblings of the Joseph ROBB who married Hannah TAGGART as well as trying to find out how and when this family got to Ohio.
Also, George ROBB who was born in 1796. How is he connected to this family? Is he related to Joseph the emigrant thru one of the sons?
James M. ROBB who was the Justice of the Peace. Does anyone know who his parents and siblings where?
So there you have my dilemma. I have additional information about the children of Joseph and Mary Ann RAMBO, Joseph & Hannah TAGGART and I have the names and some history on the children of George ROBB & Jane GEORGE and I am more than willing to share what I have.
Thanks for reading this rather long message.
Don French, So. Calif.

Thank you for your reply.
In ref. to George ROBB & Jane GEORGE. I have the 1850 & 1860 Pa. Fed. Cen., Washington Co. information. I received info. from a GEORGE website on rootweb stating that George ROBB was b. in 1796, m. Jane GEORGE 22 Sep 1829 and that the couple had seven kids, named.
I found a article on interment/pa/Washington Co./Covenanter Cem. stating that George ROBB died 18 Nov 1861 at 65 years of age and he is buried with Jane G. in row #2.
When I found this info. I was looking for information about Jane GEORGE as Laura Jeanette GEORGE was my 2nd gr. grandmother and I was trying to find out more about the GEORGE surname.
I dont have a copy of the manuscript of the descendants of George ROBB & Jane GEORGE, nor until your message, did I even know of its existence. As to Beers on-line history of Washington Co., Pa. I was only able to find one article on a Joseph W. ROBB on page 558 and that has no reference to George & Jane or any other ROBB that Im working on as far as I could tell.
Any information you might have concerning George & Jane and would be willing to share, would be greatly appreciated. I would be more than willing to pay you to photo copy any of your information, including any notes you would be willing to share and I would send you a SASE so you could send the information to me.
I figure if I collect enough information, and use that information to find additional information, I will eventually figure out where each of these ROBB surnamed folks fit into the overall picture.
I would dearly love to visit your PIERSON/PORTER website on Ancestry or rootsweb, but after spending several minutes trying to tell Ancestry to find the PIERSON/PORTER family web site, with no success, I decided to ask you if you know how one goes about looking up a specific tree by its name?
Well enough for now. The wife and son have decided to take me out to diner and Im not one to turn down a diner, whether I pay for it or not. J

Subject: Follow-up on Robb research
Hello again Laurie,
Well all I can say is WOW, what a tremendous amount of information you have gathered on the Pierson/Porter web site. It took me days and scores of family group sheets, to record all of the information.
I had most of the information about Robert George and his descendents, the one area where I have conflicting information has to do with Samuel George & his wife Christiana George. You have daughters Lizzie & Emma as the 5th & 6th children. In my research (see attachment, which I hope is readable), Im fairly well convinced that they are one and the same. In the 1880, 1900 & 1920 Pa. Cen. there is Emma L., Lizzie E. & Emma L. all with her living with Samuel. An Emma Lizzie George is buried in the Beaver Cem. born 1878 d. 4 Apr 1966, 87 years old. An obit lists her as Miss. Emma L. George. I havent found both a Lizzie and an Emma as separate subjects in any document Ive found so far, so Ive concluded that they are one and the same. If youve found any additional information to show both as separate individuals, please let me know and Ill amend my genealogical file immediately.
In the email you sent to me on Sunday the 19th of June, along with the Robert GEORGE descendancy chart, was a paragraph stating that George ROBB was the fourth child of James & Jane (GEORGE) ROBB, but the Ancestry.com list shows him as the third child with Jane ROBB being born in 1800. Do you have anything on this?
Can you advise the extent of the manuscript on the descendants of George ROBB & Jane GEORGE? I would dearly love to have a copy of it for my library for research purposes, if at all possible. I was able to obtain a copy of a short manuscript entitled, One Hundred and Fifty Years of the GEORGE Family 1735-1885 which is a record of the GEORGE Family Reunion in 1885 and it has to do with the descendants of Thomas GEORGE, and his sons Robert & Alexander. Its fascinating reading, however, it is not of much use for genealogical purposes as it has almost no information concerning lineage. Its mostly letters written to the folks gathered at the reunion expressing their regrets about not being able to attend, with a few letters telling the historical records of Thomas, Robert & Alexander GEORGE. There is a list of about 400+ names of people who were at the reunion, but its just a list of names, no connection as to who is married to whom, or who came with whom or any relationship whatsoever. Strangely enough there were no ROBB surnamed people in attendance.
I thank you so much for answering my email. You have been of tremendous help and assistance. Please let me know if I can get a copy of the manuscript and if I can be of any assistance to you in any way let me know and Ill do my best to help.
As I read further in the Pierson/Porter web site, Im sure Ill have questions, so dont even think this is a see you later message. J
Don

Subject: Robb Descendants follow-up

Hi Laurie
Well, it took a lot of time and over 150 family group sheets, but I finally entered almost all of the information in the ROBB, The Descendants of George ROBB & Jane GEORGE into my PAF file. I am amazed and astonished as to the amount of information included by this couple. It must have taken a lot of time, effort and dedication to amass the information. The question that first came to my mind was, with all of this effort, they must have discovered the occupation of many of the subjects and where the marriages, deaths and births took place, but it was not included.
All I can say is WOW I certainly hope someone in the family was able to save all of the documentation that was collected and hopefully it still exists.
Now, to my questions. I realize that you may not have answers to some of them, but here goes anyway. The page numbers I refer to are the ones hand written in the lower right corner of each page
1. The authors, G.M.& Ruth. Would this be George Mackey ROBB & Ruth M. RUSSELL, shown on page 16 & 17?
2. Page 5, a Rev. J.K. ROBB, D.D. is mentioned as publishing a book in 1944, could this be James K. ROBB, who married Winifred TURNER on pg. 12 and after the death of Winifred, married Helen STEUSSIE on pg. 13?

pp. 247-8, ROBERT G. ROBB
Among the highly honored and respected farmers who claim Washington county, Pennsylvania, as their birthplace, one who has carefully noted all the vast changes in Burlington for over forty years, and now is quietly enjoying some of the results of the many hardships he was obliged to undergo in his younger days, is Robert G. Robb, whose life record we are pleased to place before the many readers of this review.
Robert G. Robb is a son of George and Jane (George) Robb, and was born in Washington county, Pennsylvania, Oct. 14, 1832. He received a good, substantial education in the district schools of his native township, after which he entered upon the farm duties that generally fall to the lot of a farmer's son. He was a very industrious boy, and very handy with the saw and hammer; between times with his farm work he would practice using them, and soon became a carpenter of much ability. He worked at both farming and building for many years.
In 1874 he located in Des Moines county, and his earnings of the past enabled him to purchase one hundred and sixty acres of land, which is the farm he now resides on, and was formerly owned by Joseph McElhiney. He later sold forty acres of this place to his son. Besides engaging in general farming, with the best of results, he raises a number of pure Short Horn cattle. He had one animal of this breed at the World's Fair, which took the fourth prize. When Mr. Robb moved onto this farm it was in need of many improvements, and he at once began the erection of several necessary buildings. He has also repaired and remodeled the house, and now his farm, with its substantial improvements, is considered one of the finest in the township.
Oct. 13, 1859, Mr. Robb joined heart and hand with Miss Mary S. McLoughlin, who was a daughter of Samuel and Margaret (May) McLoughlin. This union was blessed with six children, as follows: George M., formerly located in New York, is a minister, now residing in Philadelphia, where he works with much success; Samuel Edmund, a bright young man with many friends, departed this life at the early age of twenty-five years; John J. is a prosperous farmer of Yellow Springs township; Thomas C., also tills the soil to a large extent, in the same township with his brother John; Jennie E., the beloved widow of Robert Edgar, married Robert M. McFarland, and will live on Mr. Robb's home place; Margaret May is employed in one of the large millinery stores in the city of Des Moines. After sharing the joys and sorrows of married life for some seventeen years, Mrs. Robb was called to the home beyond the skies July 30, 1876.
Nov. 8, 1878, Mr. Robb married Miss Susan K. Kilpatrick, a daughter of Daniel and Mary Kilpatrick, and they are the parents of one son, William M., who has taken a theological course in Allegheny City, Pa., in preparation for the ministry, and is now at home. Mrs. Robb was born in Monroe county, Indiana, March 2, 1845, and moved to Yellow Springs township with her parents many years ago. a sketch of John Kilpatrick will be found on another page in this review, which will speak more at length of Mrs. Robb's father.
Mr. and Mrs. Robb are devoted and influential members of the Reform Presbyterian church, where he has been elder for many years; they also belong to the Reform Association. Mr. Robb has led a busy life, his strenuous nature being utterly opposed to indolence and idleness, and through his perseverance and diligence, and his careful management of business affairs, he has won creditable success, being now one of the substantial and valued citizens of Yellow Springs township, where his family is accorded an enviable position in social circles.
