Progress Lodge, No. 226, A.,F. & A.M. was instituted under dispensation December 18, 1867, and chartered June 3, 1868. The first officers were: George Wright, W.M.; O. A. Paul, S.W.; D.M. Adams, J.W.; J.R. Backus, Secretary. The charter members were Morris Boss, George Wright, O.A. Paul, J.R. Backus, D.M. Adams, Isaac Guy and C. W. Littleton. The present officers are: R.W. Wilson, W.M.; N.B. Hixon, S.W.; H.C. Kline, J.W.; H.B. Cartright, Treasurer; Fred C. Tuttle, Secretary. The Lodge meets at Masonic Hall, has a present membership of forty-two, and property valued at $2,500

Yellow Springs and Huron, Recent Settlers - 1860 and beyond:
"O.A. Paul came from the Morning Sun neighborhood in the 60's and settled near Northfield, on the old Reuben Nichols farm.  He lived there several years, but being a carpenter, preferred working at his trade.  About 1875 he built the house where S.N. Moyers now lives, and lived there till after the death of his wife, which occurred in 1877.  After that he lived with his children.  His children are Nancy, wife of R.R. Lockhart; at whose home he died in 1894; Henry, married Anna B. Willson; William, Charley, Curtis; Mattie, wife of Robert Porter of Fairfield, and Dora, lives with her."

                   Notes from Aunt Jane Bruce Porter Patterson (sister to George A. Porter):
First daughter,  Nancy Paul Lockhart of Mediapolis, Iowa, married furniture man - Robert Lockhart.  Children:  1. Son Wm;
2.  Bertha married and had twin girls, Doris and Dorothy;
3.  Twins- boys, Orville and Oral, one died at 5 years (older than George A. Porter);
4.  Elinor, Jane's age, age 11 when her mother died, pretty with red hair, no freckles and smart.  A year ahead of Jane in school but same age.
Jane was 11 years old when they first moved to Benton Blvd., Kansas City - "Aunt Nan came to visit.  They found she had cancer of the stomach - died 3 mos. later - buried in Mediapolis."
(The first time Jane realized her brother George (Sprouty) liked her was when cousin Elinor came and did some mean things to Jane and in the dead of winter, George took Elinor outside and turned the fawcett on her.
