CATHERINE (SENG) MILLER , was born in Hessen Darmstadt Germany July 27, 1849 and was the only child of William and Margaret Seng. When but a girl of twelve years, she in company with her parents came to America and located in Carroll Co. ILL.
On December 22, 1866 she was united in marriage with Henry Miller also a German from the fatherland and to this union was born ten children, five sons and five daughters. They are William of Scotland, SD; Edward of Meadow, SD; George of Breckenridge, Minn; Mrs. Ella Harrington of Seattle, WA; Mrs. Theresa Zugschwerdt,of Chadwick, ILL; Mrs. Millie Rahn, the Misses Rose and Matilda, Charles and Albert all of Lanark.
For many years Mrs. Miller resided on a farm four miles north of this city, with the exception of a few years. Last February because of impaired health the family came to Lanark to reside.
She united with the Lutheran church at the early age of twelve in Germany and together with her husband and all of her children has been a faithful member of the Lutheran church of this city. The last rites of the church were extended to her ten days before her death when husband and all of her children partook of the Lord's supper.
Mrs. Miller possessed very many friends as she was of a kind and christian dispostion. To all who came into her home she extended a welcome hand and greeted them with a smile.
Though but in the meridian of life 63 years (Died 02 Oct 1912) and a few months-she was loath to leave a devoted husband and family whom she dearly loved and faithfully ministered unto in her life.
She sincerely thanked all who befriended her as life was slowly ebbing away and said to them "I am ready. Come, Dear Lord, and take me home." May her Christian example be cherished by her loved ones and friends, preparing them to meet mother in that heavenly home.
As the day was balmy, the services were held in the Progressive Brethern church, instead of the Lutheran to accomodate the very large concourse of relatives and friends. her pastor, Rev. C.M. Wachter, officated, assisted by Rev. Tunkey of Chadwick and Rev. Smith of this city. Interment was made in the Lanark Cemetary.
