excerpt from email by Nancy: (june 2005)
By the way, Daniel Budd, my ancestor and son of Aaron and Phoebe, is buried at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Lamar Co., Texas, along with two daughters; I believe their names were Mary and Phebe (the o was not shown on the tombstone". You can see the names being passed down: Mary, his sister, and Phebe, his mother. By the way, Daniel was shot by a drunken hired handHe received no medical attention and died of gangrene. There have been fires in the newspaper and courthouse in Lamar County so, so far, there is nothing about his shooting in print but, Ruth Budd Galbraith's mother lived with Daniel and Ruth Jane when it happened. I have a note written by Ruth Galbraith telling about how the shooting occurred. Also, the Budds who lived in San Angelo knew of the shooting; I have a letter written by one of them. Daniel and a hired hand had gone in a wagon to Honey Grove where the hired hand got drunk. When returning, Daniel told the hired hand to get out of the wagon and open the gate, the hired hand drew a gun and shot Daniel. Daniel lived about three months and died of gangrene.

Hi, this is Nancy's sister in Colleyville,TX. Nancy wanted me to tell you both that her computer is down and she cannot accept or send emails for a time. In fact Laurie, she just received your new link about the Budds and she can't even get it for now. She is sick. She will let you both know as soon as she is up and running.
Have a good day. Sandra Budd LePori
