Subject Re: Gage county marriage lookups

Hello Laurie-- I was just going through some of my old email and realized that I don't think I ever sent you the Dimmitt marriage info I found. I really apologize for that oversight I found the following in the Gage county records:
Edith Emmeline Dimmett, age 24, born in Nebr., resident of Wymore, daughter of H. W. Dimmett and Alena A. Jannsen, married Jay Clinton Elder, age 22, born in Neb., resident of Hebron, son of A. L. Elder and Clara C. Hilton, at Wymore, on 4 Aug 1909, by Eugene F. Gates, minister of the M. E. Church. Witnesses were Eugene F. Phelps, of Hebron, and Cicely May Fenton of Wymore. (Record #N-363)

The only other Dimmett was Charles E. Dimmett, son of William H. Dimmett and Mary Fish (or Fisk? --unclear), age 22, born in Illinois, resident of McLean County, IL, married Miss Wylie R. McCracken, daughter of William W. McCracken and Melissa Dimmett, age 20, born in Illinois, also resident of McLean County, IL, at Beatrice on 19 March 1890, by Minister John N. Mills. Witnesses were Mr. H. A. LaSelle and Mrs. B. A. Cogswell, both residents of Gage county. Mills was minister at the Presbyterian Church. (Record # F-397)

Again I really apologize for not getting this info to you much sooner. I hope it helps somewhat. WYMORE HAD ITS SHARE OF DISASTROUS FIRES
First really disastrous fire to strike Wymore was June 30, 1910 when the entire corner of the block now occupied by the Ben Franklin Store and the Schafer Rexall Drug Store burned to the ground. Damage from the fire was estimated at $200,000, three 2-story brick structures being lost. Stores located in the buildings included the Taylor Opera House, Cutshall & Cumro Grocery in whose basement the fire started, Laflin Drug Co., Mentgen Bros. General Merchandise, E. N. Kauffman lawyer's office, Nebraska Telephone Company Central offices, City National Bank and Weekly Wymorean. Also damaged was the D. A. Lasher building.
Another disastrous fire struck on the east side of the street May 9, 1914 when the Greenwood and Dimmitt buildings were burned to the ground with a loss estimated at $78,000. The Dimmitt building

From the Weekly Wymorean of August 23, 1934, we quote from a letter received by the editor of that paper from Mr. H. W. Dimmett..."Wymore was not like Solomns Temple, as you could hear hammers going night and day and seven days of 24 hours each, which was a week, and no body kicked, but we enjoyed seeing the town building up."
