Laurie - I just happened to come across your site on Rootswed Family Trees. I just made a break thru this week - with the Gafford family. I have been looking for Anna Gafford for 5 years. she was married to my Grandmother's brother - LeRoy Lantz. I have a question -
Mary Douglas from the Historical Society sent me Heritage Quest for 1910 Kansas Lyon Co. Emporia, Kansas - there it shows that Myrtle, Anna, Gordon, Marie parents were - Gafford, G.M. head - physician, wife is Justine . I do believe there is a Sr. and Jr. was the son a Dr. also ? And where did you get the name of Wilhelmina for GM Gafford ?
I have sent to the Emporia library for a copy of the obit for Anna - maybe this will shed more light on this matter for me - Anna died in 1919.
If you have access to the census - please advise me as to your findings . As I do not - only what Mary Douglas sent from Heritage Quest.

Notes for LEROY EARL LANTZ:
LeRoy E. Lantz, 53, native of Dover, Ohio where he resided for many years, died unexpectedly at his home in 1175 Tuscarawas Ave. NW., this city, at 7:15 pm, yesterday following a short illness with a heart ailment.
Mr. Lantz was a son of the late Levi Lantz and Margaret Scheuerman Lantz. He was employed as bookkeeper at the Gibson Bros. Auto Wrecking Co. here and formerly was a field representative for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in the mid-west.
He graduated from Dover high school and was a charter member of the Alpha Phi fraternity in that city. His wife, Anna Gafford Lantz, died in 1919.
Surviving are three children, Mrs. Richard Hurst, (Maurine) of this city, Mrs. Roy Culp, (Gretchen) of Dallas Texas, and James Lantz of Salina, Kansas; his mother, Mrs. Margaret Lantz of this city; and one grandson; a sister, Mrs. Evan Jones, (Pearl) of this city; two half-sisters, Miss Anna Wiederecht of Massillion, Ohio, Mrs. Wood Smith, of Los Angeles, California, and a half brother, Charles Wiedereicht, of this city.
Funeral services will be held at the Toland Funeral Home, Dover, Ohio at 2pm Wednesday with Rev. R. I. Giering officiating. Burial will be made in Maple Grove Cemetery.

1919 Roy and Anna Lantz are living at 314 S. Phillips, Salina, with their 2 daughters.

Sometime in here Anna apparently dies, although we cannot find where she is buried, or a death record for her.

Roy and Edith must have married sometime in here. I did not find a marriage license in Salina County for them.

1925 Roy and Edith, r. 1020 East Iron. Roy is a traveling salesman.

1926 Still living in Kansas. No mention of a James. Note : in the obituary for Maurine, James is listed as James L. Kent.

1928 Rex and Clara Kent move to Salina from Norton.

1929 Rex L. (Clara M.), president Kent Oil, Jayhawk Oil, and Rogers Construction, resides 400 S. 9th.

1930 Census: Roy, Edith, Gretchen and Maurine living in Salina. Also living with them is a servant Carrie E. Hustig/Hurtig.

Robert Kent, son, Male, White, 14, single, born in Kansas both parents born in Kansas.

1933 Rex & Clara Kent, pres. Farmers Finance Co., Jayhawk Oil Co., Superior Refining Co. & Kent Oil Co., h 834 Highland Ave.; Robert Kent, student, living with them. (son)

1934 Edith, bkpr. E.C. McKelvey Co., living R. 910 South St. No Roy in Salina.

Sometime between 1933 and 1934 Leroy & Edith apparently separated.

1939 Rex L. Kent & Clara M., living at 205 N. College Ave. Pres. Kent Oil Co.

1941 LeRoy dies in Ohio.

1941 Rex L & Clara M., still on College Ave.

1942 Edith Lantz, r 314 W. Ash, apt 6

1942 Rex Kent, r 314 W. Ash, apt 6; also an entry Rex L. pres. Kent Oil, h. 205 N. College. No Clara in Salina.

1943 Rex Kent no wife listed.


Between 1943 and 1946 Rex Kent & Edith Lantz apparently married.


1946 ( next available directory) Kent, Rex L. ( M. Edith) householder 214 Greenway Rd. Kent, Connie, student, living same address.

1950 Kent, Rex L. ( Edith) on Greenway Rd. with Jas H., student living at same address.

Sometime after 1950, Rex & Edith Kent moved to Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

College Ave. was a nice street in 1939. Greenway Rd. was/is a very exclusive neighborhood in the Country Club addition.





1973 Robert A. & Pauline Kent, President rapid transit Co., r. 425 Upper Mill Hgts.

1980 Robert Kent died in Salina, and is buried in Roselawn Cemetery. His obit. lists a stepbrother James, of Houston, Tx.
