TX Cemeteries Name: Ruth Budd Galbraith Born: 14 May 1903 Died: 27 Jul 1999 Buried: Hickory Grove Location: CENTER NORTH Notes: THE PARIS NEWS, Wednesday, July 28, 1999, page 4B: 'HONEY GROVE - Ruth Budd Galbraith, 96, died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at Presbyterian Village North Health Care Center, Dallas. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home with the Rev. Russ Noland of McKenzie United Methodist Church and the Rev. David Turner of Lakewood United Methodist Church, Dallas, presiding. Burial was in Hickory Grove Cemetery at Petty. Mrs. Galbraith was born March 14, 1903, in Petty to Ben and Ettie Turner Budd. After graduating from Honey Grove High School she attended the College of Industrial Arts (now Texas Woman's University) in Denton. Before going to Columbia University in New York City she was librarian at Marshall High School and was employed at Fort Worth Public Library. While at Columbia she received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Library Science. She married John B. Galbraith and they lived in New York City before moving to Metuchen, N.J. John commuted to New York City to work and Ruth taught at Rutgers University from which she took early retirement. In Metuchen she enjoyed involvement in Quiet Hour Club, Friends of Metuchen Public Library, and Metuchen Regional Historical Society. She was a charter member of Texas Woman's University Regents Association. Ruth was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Metuchen and after moving to Dallas in 1986 she joined the Church of Ascension Episcopal Church. Her husband preceded her in death. Surviving are a foster sister, Gladys Hall of Dallas; a niece, Etta Katherine Stringer of Petty; great-nephews, John Budd Stringer, Cupertino, Calif., and Felix Ray Stringer, Chandler; and great-great-nieces and nephews, Joelle, Karen and John Kevin Stringer of Cupertino, Calif. Harold Roberts, Don Roberts, Felix Ray Stringer, Daniel Cantrell, Matthew Cantrell, and Tom Fomby served as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Hickory Grove Perpetual Care Fund, c/o Mrs. D. D. Whitten, secretary-treasurer, Petty, Texas, or the American Cancer Society.' *Buried between Ettie B. Budd & Gladys H. Hall.
