Obituary, James H. Baird Dies in Peoria, Sept 24, 1943,
James H. Baird, 67, died at 1:40 this morning in Peoria, Illinois at the home of his son in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George VanGundy, where he had been cared for recently.  He had been ill the past five months having suffered a heart attack last April 9.  His condition had been more critical the past week.
Funeral services are announced for Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock in the Presbyterian church.  Dr. F. W. Eastwood will conduct the service and burial will be in the family lot in Elm Grove cemetery.  Funeral arrangements are in charge of Sherman's funeral home, Mrs. Sherman having gone to Peoria this morning for hte body.
James H. Baird, was born Sept 18, 1876, on a farm near Ainsworth, a son of D.L. and Ida Crawford Baird.  He was married to helen Beatrice Baird who died Jan 12, 1941.
He had lived his entire life in Washington county and the past two years had lived in Washington when he retired from farming, a profession he had followed since 1924.  He was a member of the Presbyterian church serving many years as an elder in which capacity he served the church at the time of his death.  He was a past commander of the Albert M. Huff post, Spanish War veterans having served in that war.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. George Van Gundy of Peoria, and a son, Stanley Baird, of Creve Coeur, Illinois, a sister in law, Mide C. Lewis of Peoria; and three grandchildren.
