Thomas Sheriff first appears in the records of Plymouth Colony. He is mentioned as early as 1638, and was probably in Plymouth well before that time, most likely arriving between 1633 and 1636. Thomas purchased land in Little Compton, now Rhode Island, which was then occupied by Indians.
Will dated 5 April 1735; will proved 28 Feb 1740/41, Burlington County, New Jersey Caleb changed the family name from Sheriff to Shreve after moving to New Jersey. Caleb was one of the earliest settlers of western New Jersey. Caleb was an English Quaker Immigration: Sailed from England with John Fenwick on the ship "Griffith" in 1675.
He married Martha Abt 1648 . Martha was born at of England Abt 1628 .
