BIOGRAPHICAL: "John Sutton, 1st Baron of Dudley, K.G. (Knight of the Order of
the Garter) Lord Lient. of Ireland 1428-30, was summoned to Parliament as a
Baron by writs directed to 'Johanni de Sutton de Duddeley milita' from 15 Feb.
1439-40 to 15 Sept. 1485. He served in the wars in France, was elected K.G.
before 23 April, 1459, and made Constable of the Tower 1473. Greatest of all
Barons of Dudley - posterity assumed Dudley name."
