John Joseph GREENE

                   Judge of Montana's 9th District from 1919 to 1929. After serving as judgefor the district including Toole, Glacier, Teton and Poudera counties, hewas appointed to the State Boaard of Equalization by Gov. John E.Erickson in 1928, a post in which he served until 1939 when he reutrnedtp private practice in Cut Bank.  He retired in 1954 and moved toBillings. During his term on the Board of Equalization he was associatedwith revision of the corporation tzx and the inheritance tzx. Otheraction with the board included suggeted legislation on the general fund.Judge Greene attended Upper Iowa University, and received his law degreefrom the University of Minnesota in 1912, when he moved to Cut Bank. In1914 he was elected county attorney in Teton County and after his term heentered into partnership with Geroge Coffey at Choteau. he resigned fromthe firm when elected district judge.  He was listed in Who's Who in theWest and was an active membe of the Democratic party, a memeber of theMontana council of the American Pioneer Trails Assn., an honorary memberof the Blackfeet Indian tribe with the title of Chief Plenty Ribs and amember of the Yellowstone Country Club.  He was cremated on May 12, 1960in Great Falls and ashes were flown to Glacier Park by friend Jack Tirleof Shelby, Montana.
