Edward WINSLOW, Governor, eldest son of Edward and his second wife Magdalene (OLIVER) WINSLOW. He was buried at sea May 8, 1655, with the honors of war, forty-two guns being fired by the fleet he was accompanying from Hispaniola to Jamacia, West Indies. He was the third signer of the immortal "Compact", and probably one of the authors. At the annual colony election in 1624, he was chosen as the assistant to the governor, holding by succeive appointments unitl 1647, excepting 1633, 1636 and 1644, when he was chosen the third governor of New Plymouth and the first by the election of the people. He was soon after engaged in the English public service abroad, and never returned to New England. Further detail provided in this reference. WINSLOW AND CRANNELL, hand-written family group records; buried at sea 8 May 1655, near Hispaniola. Died on the flagship of William Penn's father, attempting to conquer the Spanish West Indies for Oliver Cromwell.

Note that John WINSLOW "came on the "Fortune" 1621" - assume this is saying John WINSLOW came from England on the ship "Fortune" to the United States in 1621. Probably died in Boston. WEISER, Gloria, 3 Jan 1997; WINSLOW ANCESTRY records, 2nd child of Edward WINSLOW and Magdalene OLLYVER, lived in Plymouth and moved to Boston in 1657. HEATON, Vernon, 1980, The Mayflower; page 193, one of the Assistant Governors, 1657-1672, of the Plymouth Plantation; married Mary CHILTON, daughter of James CHILTON, who with his wife came to Plymouth on the "Mayflower" in 1620. The fifty-five ton ship "Fortune" on 11 Nov 1621 sailed into Plymouth Harbour (page 147), the first ship from overseas since the "Mayflower" departed. SHERMAN, Robert M., Editor, 1978, Mayflower Families Through Five Generations; Voume Two, pages 6-10, son of Edward and Magdalena (OLLYVER) WINSLOW, and brother of Pilgrim Edward WINSLOW. John WINSLOW was listed a freeman in 1633, and became active in the government of the colony, setting off and appraising land and serving jury; in 1653 he became a member of "a counsell of warr." His will attested 21 May 1674, is preserved in Boston, and copied in this reference.
