Birth year was 1856 according to the 1860 census, more likely than the birth year of 1858 on the 1900 census. Birth month from 1900 Census. Had been associated with a marriage to William E. Voss. This is unlikely, and not supported by research.

When he was 20 years old he came to Coleman County and engaged in ranching there. The town of Voss took its name from him.
He moved to Miles and was married there to Miss Pannye Norman of Paint Rock in 1907. There were five children born to them, the oldest, John Norman Voss, dying in France in 1944 while a member of the armed services. Other children include Clyde Voss and Bill Voss of this city, Helen Voss of Paint Rock and Pannye Voss of Dallas. Mrs. Voss died in 1917.

Notes:
Family records show marriage date at 15 Jan 1920, but the newspaper in Miles reported that the marriage occurred on Jan 7 1920 in Fort Worth. This concurrs with the census on 14/15 of Jan in Miles which showed them living together as husband and wife at that time.
"FRIDAY JANUARY 16, 1920 VOSS ECHOLS News of the marriage of Will Voss and Mrs. Lillie Echols, which occurred in Fort Worth January 7, was received with pleasure by Mr. Voss many friends here.
