John Edward O'MEARA
Vivians: From Land's End to the Tip of Texas. 2006. Naomi Vivian Ridge
NOTES: Family history says he died in a gunfight. Immigrated about 1852. From the Vivian book: "Two of the sons of Lloyd and Caroline married daughters of John O'Meara, who brought his family to Texas from Tipperary, Ireland, during the potato famine. The story is told that after the O'Mearas arrived in Galveston, they traveled by smaller vessels along the Texas coast to Indianola. John O'Meara placed his family members on different boats so that if one went down, the others could survive. According to a Vivian family informant, the boat carrying Annie O'Meara capsized, as her father feared, and he pulled her to safety from another boat. Annie, born November 1, 1849, would later marry Henry Calvin Vivion in 1866. Her sister Elizabeth "Lizzie," born December 7, 1853, married Henry's younger brother William Riley."
NOTES: Family records show she was born 2 Jan 1826. She appears 33 years old on the 1860 census. However, her headstone says she was born Jan 2 1822.
