Signed papers of intent to become citizen 30 October 1882 (Waden County Record of intent to become citizen). Became a US citizen on 7 December 1897, Daniel Kusi and Alfred Kangas signed as witnesses. (Wadena County copy of citizenship record).
He was born Jacob Körkkö, later Wuopala, and later Ruona. He kept the Ruona name when he came to America. The name changes come about because they took the last name of the farm that they were living or working on.
