Martha's ancestors came from an area near Turku, Finland. One of those islands just west of Turku is where her parents were born. They went to school together. He took an apprenticeship on a sailing ship. He was later in America. She secretly left home and came to New York, and was trying to find him. Somehow he must have heard where she was because he found her in New York, and they got married about 1900. They had two children when they left New York. A relative had a little piece of land in Finlayson, Minnesota, so they came there and thought they might start farmind there. He helped the relative with the farming, and when she passed away, he inherited that farm.

So Martha's father and mother were farming near Finlayson, about three miles from town. Martha was the youngest child. She was born in Findlayson, Minnesota. Information from Donald Turner.
