Reuben TOLMAN

BIRTH:  There are differences in family records as where Nathan was born - Warren, Lincoln, Maine or Barrettstown (now Hope), Waldo, Maine.  It should be noted that Waldo County wasn't formed until 1827 out of Hancock County, which was formed in 1789, the year after Nathan's birth.  Hancock County was formed from Lincoln County, which was formed in 1760.  So, technically, Nathan was born in Lincoln County.  The question remains, as of Sept 1997, to determine if he was born in Barrettstown (now Hope) or Warren.  However, "Annals of Warren" by Cyrus Eaton, p. 230 indicate that in 1785 Reuben Tolman came to Warren and in 1802 removed to Hope/ Barrettstown;  Family History Library US/Can Bk 974.153 H2E. DEATH: Van Buren Co., Iowa Land & Property Records, Agreement and Deed Nathan Tolman and John Tolman Jr. May 12, 1842, Bk. D p. 148 -John agreed to take care of Nathan and family in exchange for home & property.  Clerk of District Court, Keosauqua, Iowa 52565;  Salt Lake Temple Sealing Record, Children to Parents 8 Apr 1893 to 8 May 1895; Sealing performed 24 Oct 1894; FHL Special Collections film #1239604 or #184652; It was believed at one time (When William Odell Tolman was family genealogist) that Nathan and Sarah may have died at Turkey Creek, S.E. of Atlantic, Cass, Iowa;

   Also 1790 and 1800 Federal Census of Maine lists Reuben Tolman in Warren.  The 25 Dec 1804 Reuben Tolman of Warren sold 16 acres to Isaac Spear. FHL film #011389, p. 92.
