He was born in Freeland Michigan and given up for adoption by his mother, when she and two children were abandoned by the birth father.
In 1943, Carl went into the U.S. Naval Construction Battalions and served until 1945 in the South Pacific. On return from this World War II service years, he resumed the plumbing trade and traveled to several states on large construction jobs. He also served as a member of the U.S. Naval Reserves for many years, until his death on 27 Nov 1966.
