Herman Schunk, Age 20 y. 5'6" Blond hair, blue eyes, emigrated on the SS Yorck. His immigration was sponsored by Uncle Googlob (Gottlob) Eberspacher, 205 E. Seward Ave, Seward Nebr. He had at least $35.00 The ship, sailing from Bremen to New York (Ellis Island), arrived December 19, 1923 SS Yorck was built by Schichau Shipyard, Danzig, Germany, 1906. 8,901 gross tons; 462 (bp) feet long; 57 feet wide. Steam quadruple expansion engines, twin screw. Service speed 14.5 knots. 2,078 passengers (108 first class, 112 second class, 1,858 third class). Built for North German Lloyd, German flag, in 1906 and named Yorck. Bremerhaven-New York service. German hospital ship, 1914-15; laid-up 1915-19. Resumed in 1922. Scrapped in 1933.

Anna was engaged to a man in Neu-Isenberg, when she came to the USA to look for work and how living was in the USA. While in Chicago she got her hair cut short, had her picture made, and sent it back to her finance in Germany. He was upset that she got her hair cut, and she broke off the engagement. About that time she met Herman Schunk. She knew of the Michigan Roemers in Sebewaing, and visited there.
