Myron Gilbert Shomshor

Myron Shomshor, 14, of  near Scribner drowned in Maple Creek nine miles south of Scribner.

A deep hole  in Maple Creek claimed the life of the Shomshor boy.  He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. CHarles Shomshor of near Scribner.

Young Shomshor drowned when he and  a companion, Raymond Allen Gutchow, 14,  were riding bikes and decided to wade in the creek. He fell into an 8-foot water-filled hole in the creek.

Gutchow ran about one-half mile to the Clifford Johnson home to summon help, but no one was home. He started to run to  the next farm when he met Wayne Christensen, a farmer, on the road. The two returned to the Johnson home and called the Scribner Rescue Squad.

The rescue squadhad to drive through fields to get to the  place where the boy went down. They found his body in minutes but could no revive him after 45 minutes work with a respirator.

Myron was to be a freshman at Scribner High School.

He was born Feb. 16, 1941, near Ridgeley, and live there all his life. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church at Ridgeley, and a member of Luther League. He graduated from school district 66 and was confirmed last April at St. John's Church.
