                   The Dawes commission records indicate that Britton BARNES' father was a half-breed Cherokee and his mother was a quarterroon. Testimony of G. Luis BARNES [79 yrs old] and John C. JONES [78 yrs old] [grandsons of Britton BARNES] of DeKalb Co., TN, 14 Apr 1892.

CONFUSED RECORD - INTERPRETED TO MEAN THAT THIS BRITTON BARNES IS A HALF-BREED CHEROKEE AND THAT HIS MOTHER IS A SENITH BARNES IS A QUARTERROON THROUGH HIM.

The Cherokee of Robeson County are generally known today as Lumbee Indians. The Lumbee claim descent from the Lost Roanoke Colony. Historically they were known as the Croatan.

Name given as Jerry Britten Barnes in materials found in Bible of the Preston Ford Southern, who was born 15 Sep 1877 - date of creation and creator are not known.  Wife of said Barnes is given as Senith Rachel.
