John A. BONE, SR

John A. Bone, Sr. moved to Western North Carolina in 1749. He was originally from Antrim County, Ireland. He left Chester Co. Penn with his wife Margaret Hill and infant daughter Eliabeth, along with good friends and neighbors Tom and Henry Potts. They migrated to some newly opened land in the Western part of North Carolina. John a. Bone was appointed as constable of Salisbury District, Rowan County, North Carolina. Held job through out the Rvolution but by 1776 for "new" Carolina government rather than "old" Royal one which had fled. In fact held position until 1789 the year he probably died. Bone Sr. and Margaret Hill had a daughter 1748 and the following year moved to North Carolina settling in Bladen County ( that part which became Anson in 1750; Rowan in 1753; and Iredell in 1788). John purchased 300 ares between the Catawba and Yadkin Rivers on 11 Oct. 1749. He purchased 300 more the following year and additional land in 1753. He and his family were quite active in the Fourth Creek Presbyterian Church (now the First Presbyterian Church of Statesville, NC.). John was also active in the Safety Committee (usually known as the Committee for Public Safety) in Rowan County 1775-1776.
Margaret Hill when she was about thirteen accompanied her older brother and family to Pennsylvania in 1740 and lived with them until her marriage. William and Margaret moved 1805 with other relatives to Wilson Co. Tenn. Margaret died there about 1817. On July 1819 he married a cousin of Margaret's, Jemima King.
David Bone lived in the area Northeast of Statesville all his life. It is known that his brothers William, John Jr.. and James R. moved to Wilson co. Tenn, in 1805. he and him family remained with his mother Margaret Bone on the family farm. She was living there in Iredell Co. in 1810 as was David.

Elihu Bone moved to Sangannon Co. Illlinois about if not at the same time James Scott came to Macon Co., Illinois from Fall Creek, Tenn. Church letter of Elihu Bone dated 30 August 1824 from Fall Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Rutherford County, Tenn. Henry Potts Bone and Narcissus or Nancy Britton were parents of Rev. Heny F. bone of Greenville, Texas. (From Frank Randall Records). Nancy bone married 1) James Walker, 2) Calvin Bone her first cousin of Izard County, Arkansas and had 4 children. Calvin Bone was a widower with 4 children. John and Rebecca Potts Bone had seven children in Iredell County and 805 moved to Wilson County, Tennessee. John purchased land southwest of Slatesville on Fall Creek owning land in both Wilson and Rutherford Counties. Rebecca was living in 1820 but had died before John made out his 1825 will. John died in the spring of 1827. Three of their sons seved in the War of 1812. Three of the children: Elihu, Elizabeth Scott and Jamima moved to Illinois in 1824. Nancy Bone went to Arkansas in 1841; and a couple of years later Enos moved to Texas. The oldest sons remained in Tennessee. Enos Houston Bone, Henry Potts Bone and James Hill Bone served in the War of 1812 in the West Tennessee Militia.
