                   In 1805 Sam and Jane Polk with five of their 10 children age 1 to 10 ( The 9 year old was James Knox Polk, later to become President of the United States) and Jane's mother, a widow (Lydia Gillespie Knox) moved to Wilson County, where they remained a short time then moved to Maury Co. and settled near Columbia.

When Lydia died in 1829 most of her grandchildren were in Tennessee.

                   James Knox Polk became the 11th President of the United States of America.

Went to Murfreesboro Academy and in less than 2 1/2 years in Autumn of 1815 entered the sophmore class in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.   Graduated in 1818 with highest honors being best in class Mathmatics and the Classics.  He was 23 years.  He went to Nashville and entered office of Felix Grundy to study law.  Renewed aquaintence with Andrew Jackson at the Hermitage near Nashville.

He died age 54 of Cholera.
