RESEARCH NOTE: The story of Rebecca Rawson is related by many relatives: Rebecca married a man claiming to be "Sir Thomas Hale" in Boston, and they returned to England shortly after, left their trunks full of her possessions on the ship, and went to spend the night with her relatives. In the morning, he took her key to the trunks and went down to the ship to have them sent up. They arrived at the house several hours later, but Thomas did not arrive. After some time, the trunks were bust open, to reveal shavings, but her posessions were gone. She inquired about him in the town, and found out that he was not Sir Thomas Hale, but Thomas Rumsey, a married man who had left his wife and children three years prior and spent all the family money. He could not be located. Rebecca felt disgraced, and would not return to Boston. She lived with family in England for thirteen years, she agreed to return to Boston to her father's house. Her ship made the trip with a stop in Jamaica. While there, she was one of thousands who died in an earthquake and subsequent tsunamis in the city of Port Royal, Jamaica. Some accounts list a child, while others do not.
