Mrs. Maria Keeler of 614 North Market street was pleasantly surprised last Sunday in honor of her eighty-second birthday which was on August 22. Those present included her three children, Ed Keeler, who resides with her, Mrs. Dora Kiger and husband of Kokomo and Mrs. Allie McClain and husband of South Bend; grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Scott McClain of South Bend, Nellie Mullen and family and June Barnard and family of this city. Mrs. Keeler is the widow of Ezra Keeler, who was a soldier of the Fourth Indiana Volunteers and was the mother of Miss Nellie Keeler, known as the Indiana midget with the P. T. Barnum circus from 1879 to 1887, her parents accompanying her. She weighed eleven ounces at birth and thirty-one pounds was her greatest weight. At her death she was seventeen years old.
