NOTES:
    Joseph and Sarah joined the Society of Friends (Quakers). The family came to America with William Penn. They sailed from Bristol, England, arriving in the Philadelphia area in 1682. Penn deeded 1138 acres of land to Joseph. The family first settled in Chester Co., southwest of Philadelphia. Joseph was a member of the first General Assembly of Philadelphia in 1682 and 1683. He and nine others represented Chester County. In 1697, Joseph built a home and Meet- ing House on 300 acres of his land north of Philadelphia. He called the estate "Abington". The home, two Meeting Houses and Abington Seminary still exist to- day. Joseph's Will was probated in 1716 in Abington Twp., Philadelphia County (Montgomery Co. since 1784, created from Philadelphia Co.), Pa. Joseph and Sarah were md. in the St. Lawrence Church, Reading, Berks., England.
