Richard Murphy (1) b. btw. 1670 - 75 in Ireland. He married Mary Elizabeth Byrd. She was b. 26 Feb. 1683 in West Over, Charles City County, Virginia. Mary was the daughter of William and Maria Horsmanden Filmer Byrd Sr.
Family tradition listed in the bible of Mark A. Murphy dated 1793 states that Richard Murphy was born in Ireland, was kidnapped by a Sea Captain, and brought from the British Iles to America at the age of seven. He was indentured to someone until age 21 when he moved to Virginia.
