                   NOTE:
George Allen was a Quaker and had many recorded public records of children's marriages, and other publicly recorded events. He spent his whole adult life in Sandwich, MA. Further detail is in PAF NOTES.

Some researchers have George married to Katherine Starkes:Following statement by Charles Carroll Gardner, Associate Editor of the Genealogical Magazin e of New Jersey."It might be mentioned that there was a George Allen of London, clothworker, who md. there No v. 5, 1624, Katherine Slarkes, spinster, of Woking, County Surrey; there was a George Allen o f Saitford, Somersetshire, 1627, son of John and father of another George; and there may hav e been a George Allen, son of Ralph Allen of Thurcaston, County Leicester. All of these hav e been identified by different writers as our George but, in the opinion of the compiler, wit hout any evidence to support such a claim."Following from Family Tree Maker, CD182 Family History: New Jersey Genealogies #1 Genealogie s of New Jersey Families, Volume II, A genealogical Dictionary of New Jersey, Allen (see als o Alling)GEORGE, ALLEN, son of George, b. 1619-20 111 England ;d. in or shortly before 1693 at Sandwich, Mass. ; md. ( 1 ) Hannah _________, (2) abt. 1687 , Sarah ______, who was living 1693. She was possibly the Widow Sarah Allen who died at Sandw ich Mar. 22, 1711/2. (Sandwich Q.Rec., 40 :43 ; 60 2 ; Barnstable Co. Wills, I:79 ; MayfLDesc .,29 :23). He spent all of his adult life in Sandwich, and in 1643 his name appears in a lis t of males living there aged between 16 and 60 and able to bear arms. (Ply.Col.Rec.,8 :I9 H e was one of six men appointed in Nov.,1652, to take care of all fish (whales) that the India ns should cut up, and dispose of same for the benefit of the town. In May, 1655, he subscribe d 5 shillings toward building a place to hold public meetings. (Sandwich T.R., i : 9) . He em braced the Quaker faith and was repeatedly assailed by the Plymouth government, usually on th e ground that he had refused to take the oath of fidelity (any oath being against Quaker prin ciples) or that he had failed to attend the regular church services. (Ply.Col.Rec., Vols. 2 , 3, & 8) . In 1656 his brothers Henry and Samuel conveyed to him land in Sandwich inherite d under their father?s will.(Ply.CotDeeds, Bostoii copy, 3 :i6). In the listing of all land s owned in the town, started in 1658 and probably recorded 167o-75, George Allen had 30 acre s in 7 parcels, the descriptions being very vague. (Sandwich T.R.-Prop?rs Rec.).On Mar. 12, 1669/70, he bought of Walter Clark of Newport, R.I., his share in the Indian purc hase of three Necks, Navasink, Narumsunk and Pootapeck, in Monmouth Co., N. J., and later i n the same year he bought the share of John Jenkins of Sandwich and half of the share of Dani el Gould of Newport. (MnD ABC : 45,23,24). He did not, however, take up his residence in Ne w Jersey. He left no will, probably having conveyed his New Jersey lands to his sons by deed . On Apr.22, 1693, Caleb Allen and his ?brethren and sisters? agreed to submit to arbitratio n their controversy with Sarah, widow of George Allen, over the moveable estate that Sarah an d George had at the time of the latter?s death. The protestants were later awarded forty shil lings as their share. (Barnstable Co.Wills I .79). The Quaker records show that George and Ha nnah Allen were witnesses at various marriages up to 1682. In 1683 George and his wife were q uestioned as to their approval of their daughter Lydia?s marriage to a non-Quaker, and Georg e stated that he had not known of the intended marriage until after it was performed, and fur ther, that it was his wish that all of his children might ?proceed in marriage according to t ruth?, i.e., to Quaker custom. However, the father later fell from grace, as on June 3, 1687 , it is recorded that George Allen acknowledged his wrongdoing in ?takeing of a wife wch wa s one not Convinced of ye truth & so no friend in truth?. The index to the Quaker vital reco rds shows the marriage record of George Allen as on p.6i, but this is one of many pages lon g missing from the old record. It doubtless showed thename of the first wife of George. The births of eleven children of George and Hannah are give n, while the town records show the births of the fir
st six. In every case the year is differe ntly stated in the two records. (Sandwich Q.Rec.,4o 42-43; 60:2; Mayfi. Desc., 14:109,166-9; 15:28; x6 :236).Children of George Allen and Hannah - :Caleb b.
