                   NAME:
    There has been a big debate in the family over the middle name of West for Ann West Owsley.  Many family members assert that the West middle name is an error, and is incorrect.  However, the Garrett daybook, which contains transcriptions from the family bible, lists Ann West Owsley, complete with the West middle name.  It was not uncommon to take the mother's maiden name as a middle name, even informally, and especially in this case where she is named after her mother.  She may not have used the name on all documents, but it still may have been her proper name.
