                   Revolutionary War Veteran.

Uriah Chapman, Sr. was a revolutionary soldier and was a survivor of the Wyoming massacre. From his home in Litchfield county, Conn, he,in 1774 went with his family, in company with about 30 other families, to the wilds of Pa., and settled upon the lands of the Delaware Land Com, situated on the east bank of Wlling Paupae Creek, now Pike Co., Pa. The entire tract of land was divided into lots containing 200 acres each, selected by lottery. Uriah Chapman, Sr. drew lot no. 10. No deeds were ever made to the settlers thus acquired - title being possessed with the consent of the neighbors. These original lot numbers are still in existence and recognized as valid titles. These early settlers established their own code of rules and elected officers for the enforcement of these laws. Uriah Chapman, Sr was made Justice of the Peace in May 1776, being appointed by Governor Trumbull. Among others of these 30 families from Connecticut, were the Binghams, Abie Kimball, Silas Killan, Chas. Foster and Ebenezer Woodard.
