EXERPTS FORM BIOGRAPHY OF SON GEORGE RECORDED IN 14TH QUORUM SEVENTIES
BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD, PG. 16:
". . . When my father was 20 years old he enlisted in the British Army.
Fourteen years after when I was born he was sent to England thence to
Ireland, and in 1825 he was discharged, when he went to Leek. I was then
       about 7 years old."

EXCERPTS FROM REPORT OF SEARCH OF MILITARY RECORDS OBTAINED BY THE
GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY RESEARCH DEPARTMENT (21 JUNE 1965):
"Quite an extensive search was made, and a copy of William Nixon's
service record is enclosed. Please note that he was discharged in 1825
and was residing in Amherstburg, Canada, in 1852, and that no further
record could be found for him after that date. . . he remained in Malta
until 1810, and then went to Sicily. From there he went to Portugal and
and finally landed in Quebec in 1814. From 1816 - 1817 he was stationed
       in St. Osmers Valiennce, France."
". . . There is a note on the discharge papers which shows that Pte. Wm.
Nixon born at Leek, Co. Staffordshire, has a record of good conduct; on
discharge he was 40 1/4 years olld, 5' 4" tall, with brown hair, grey
eyes and fair complexion. . . he was 'residing in Candada' on 1/10/1844.
A reference to the records of Pensions Payments - Candada shows that Wm.
Nixon, 39th Regt., was paid his pension in CAndada from 3/1846 to 12/1851,
and his resdidence was at Amherstburg. He was transferred to "Amherstburg
Pay List" in March, 1852, but those Pay Lists are not in the Public
Records Office, London. . ." (Amherstburg, Ontario is in the very
southwest tip of that province--across the river from Michigan, where the
       river enters into Lake Erie.)
