Hans S. HILLESTAD
Hans Hillestad is mentioned as a farmer on the Hillestad farm in the Botne district, Vestfold from 1617 to 1669. He was an advisory juryman in 1645, 1647, and 1650. In his mark he has the letters "H.S" which indicates his father had a first name beginning with "S." Hans Hillestad was owner of parts in more farms and must have been a well-to-do man.l In 1634 he had to pay a fine of $6.50 because he had stung Knute Hoye with a knife, and the next year a fine for wanton damage on Peder Stabell's fence in Holmestrand, and finally together with more of his neighbors $1.00 for denying official transport. In a list of taxes from 1645 he is noted with his wife, one son and two daughters. SOURCES: Rural Chronicle Botne page 821,742
