                   RESEARCH NOTES:
    -John Heywood Markland was a well educated and well published man, with several publications to his name.  He served as a parliamentry agent to the planters of the West Indies.  He wrote "On the reverence due to holy places" (1846), "Remarks on English Churches, and on the Expediency of Rendering Sepulchral Monuments Subservient to Pious and Christian Uses" (1842), "British Colonial Slavery, Compared with that of Pagan Antiquity" (1830),  "A Sketch of the Life and Character of George Hibbert, Esq, FRS, SA and LS." (1823), among others.
