Michael Hager in NEHGR 148:331 discusses confusion over Thaddeus Berry and Teague Berry. Concludes they are the same as Irish immigrant Taidhg O?Barry, citing family tradition, language, and official records. Capt. John Jenks husband of Elizabeth Berry, grandau of Thaddeus in a letter describes Thaddeus as a humble man from Ireland.Teague (Gaelic Taidhg) is distinctly Irish. It was even used a pajorative for an Irishman in 17th and 18th centuries. The Irish ?Teague? converts to Thaddeus or Timothy when anglicized.Hager ?is tempted to the belier that Teague arrived at Marblehead in 1654 with several hundred Irish children on the ship Good Fellow [Coldham, Complee Book of Immiigrants, 1998, p 267 ] .
