      Historical detail in PAF NOTES

George Washington 's early years were full of rough and dangerous experiences with Indians, fishing, logging and wild animals. His family ran a saw mill and shipped lumber 500 miles through Indian country to Pittsburg , Later they moved to Dearborn County, Indiana , and finally to McHenry County, Illinois . After his marriage, he became interested in the Mormon religion but his wife would have no part of it. He prayed for direction and comfort and finally saw himself as a young man going west to a beautiful valley. He followed the dream. He helped organize the settling of Iron County, Utah . He received an appointment to the House of Representatives and moved to Salt Lake . It was at this time that he received a letter from his wife telling of their divorce and her remarriage. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1852 . He was a very literary man and taught dancing and music and was expert on the flute. He learned the Indian language until he was able to converse freely. He, with his brother and John Cox , were instrumental in forming a treaty of peace with the Indians, which ended the Black Hawk War. He was called on several missions to help settle various parts of the country. He was later ordained a patriarch by Lorenzo Snow . Their son, George Henry , was president of Brigham Young University for 21 years. Children of 1st wife: They had three children. Children of 2nd wife: George Henry . Rachel Emma . Emer M. Orilla M. Omer M. Ruth R. Prudence M. Ether Record . Tryphena M. Grace M. Janice Betts
