AFTER SAMUELS FATHER DIED HE BECAME CLOSE TO HIS UNCLE GEORGE.HE CONSIDERED HIS UNCLE GEORGE HIS ADOPTED FATHER. WHEN HIS MOTHERS NEW HUSBAND WILLIAM DAVIES WAS INSTUCTED TO MOVE THEY DID TO A PLACE THAT WOULD EVENTUALLY BECOME KNOWN AS CEDAR CITY. IN THE LATE SUMMER OF 1853 THE DAVIES DECIDED TO MOVE TO CALIFORNIA. YOUNG SAMUEL WAS 10 YEARS OLD. IT IS NOT CERTAIN WHETHER HE WAS ALREADY LIVING WITH HIS UNCLE GEORGE OR THEY WERE JUST EXTREMELY CLOSE. HE HID IN THE CORN FIELDS SO HIS MOTHER COULDN'T FIND HIM WHEN HTEY LEFT. HE WOULD NEVER SEE HIS MOTHER OR BROTHERS AGAIN.
