Island, historical cemetery # 4. He could have been the son of Col. Adrian
Scrope, who was one of the commissioners of the High Court of Justice, who
tried and sentenced King Charles of England. "The Burkes Landed Gentry" states
that according to family tradition, one of the younger sons of Col. Scrope fled
to American and changed his name to William Throop to escape pursuit of his
fathers enemies. He was the youngest child of Col. Adrian Scrope. In the
Hartford, Hartford, Connecticut Vital Records on Deeds, there are two documents
bearing the signature of Adrian Scrope, as a witness to land transactions.
This was after the time of Col. Adrian Scrope's execution and after the arrival
of William Throop in America. William Throop was living in Hartford County at
the time that these documents were signed.
