Thomas SALISBURY

Thomas Salisbury located in Woodland, Fulton, Illinois in 1827 after leaving Vanderburgh County, Indiana. Thomas had settled in Vanderburgh County, Indiana after leaving Ohio, where two of his children were born. Thomas settled on land that didn't belong to him and made some improvements. These small improvements were sold when he came to Illinois. According to his son William H., Thomas was born in Virginia and his wife, Nancy Dyer was born in Kentucky. All the children, except the first two, were born in Vanderburgh County, Indiana. The children are: Lavina, William H., Marcus Lafayette, James, John A., Levi, Samuel J., Thomas J., Nancy, Cathena or Catherine, and Chauncey. Thomas and Nancy are believed to be buried in the Thompson-Salisbury Cemetery in Hickory, Schuyler, Illinois. There are some very old broken stones in the back of the cemetery that are reputed to be theirs. She then married Rezin Prather on 28 Apr 1831 in Schuyler County, Illinois. A note was found saying she died in young womanhood.

He was listed as 65 yrs old, farmer, born in Indiana, his parents were born in KY. Shown with his second wife, Rebecca A. Mason. Buried in the Thompson-Salisbury Cemetery. Index Plat Book of Schuyler County, Illinois-1892, by the Schuyler County Jail Historical Society, 1984. This book shows that William owned property in Hickory township in Section 4, this is the land that the Salisbury-Thompson Cemetery is now located on.
