Franklin Andrews, Attorney at Law, publishedin Audubon, Iowa by William E. Brinkerhoff, in 1890. Note: This book states that Lt. Thomas Burnham had a wife Ruth who died July 30, 1657. This is wrong and this error has been perpetrated by all people doing genealogy on this line since. The above references and others clearly indicate that he did not have a wife Ruth. The Ruth who died July 30, 1657 is identifed in the official records of births and deaths in Ipswich and Chebacco Mass. as the daughter of Thomas Burnham. The above references point out very clearly that Thomas' wife was Mary (Marie) Lawrence. A court case in 1670 very definitely states that his wife in 1650 was Mary and his Mother-in Law was Mistress Tuttle. This was sworn to in the court by Thomas, Mary, Goodwife Archer, and John Peripoint. Other records support this fact. Another misconception is the name of Thomas' wife Mary (Marie) Lawrence. Some people doing this generalogy have stated the she was married to Mr. Tuttle. This is wrong. The above references state that she was Mary (Marie) Lawrence. Mary's mother, Joanna Antrobus was first married to a John Lawrence,Sr. They had three children: John Lawrence,Jr. age 17 in 1635, William Lawrence age 12 in 1635 and Marie Lawrence age 9 in 1635. After the death of John Lawrence,Sr. Joanna married John Tuttle. They had the following children according to the records of 1635: Abigail age 6 in 1635, Symon, age 4 in 1635, Sara Age 2 in 1635, Sara age 2 in 1635, and John age 1 in 1635. This is taken from Depositions in Essex Court in 1662. The parents of Thomas Burnham have not been proven. However, it is stated that his parents were Robert Burnham and Mary Andrews.

Same sources as for Thomas Burnham. However, there is a discrepency on her
birth date. One of the sources lists her as born in 1626 and the others as
1624. The latter date of 1624 is probably more correct since she stated this
in a court case as a sworn in witness.
