John Sherman DeKalb ARMSTRONG
J.S.D. Armstrong enlisted in the Confederate Army on 12 Sep. 1861 in Columbus, Ga. He served in Hurt's Battery, Alabama Light Artillery throughout the War. His residence, as listed in his service record, was Tallapoosa Co. Ala. He was severely wounded at the Battle of Sharpsburg,Md (Antietam) on 17 Sep 1862, and again at the Battle of Bristol Station, Va. on 14 Oct. 1863. After the surrender of Gen. Lee's Army in 1865, he took an oath of allegiance to the United States and was paroled on the authority of a letter by Gen. Grant on 9 May 1865. Gen Grant's letter gave amnesty to all Confederate Soldiers who gave their oath of allegiance to the U.S.

Box 4751, Wichita Falls, Tx, 76308. Roda Ann Scurlock was married to a Mr. Bass about 1861 just before the Civil War. Evidently he did not survive the War, and she married J.S.D. Armstrong in 1865.
He married Roda Ann Scurlock 15 Oct 1865 at Tallassee, Al. . Roda Ann Scurlock was born at Al. 23 Jul 1837 daughter of William P. Scurlock and Easter E. Brown .
