The family moved from Georgia to Noxubee County, Missippi in about 1840 and then to Bienville Parish, Louisiana (1847 - 1867). John Upshaw died in Bienville Parish, Louisiana about 1862. 2.John Upshaw is also listed as Forrester Upshaw's son in the Genealogies of Virginia Families from the William and Mary College Quarterly Magazine, Volume V, (page 270), published by the Baltimore Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc. in 1982. Forrester Upshaw was living in Elbert County, Georgia in 1796. John Upshaw was born in Elbert County in 1799. 3. James was born in Elbert County , Georgia and moved with his Father, John Upshaw, to Noxubee County, Mississippi about 1840 and then in 1846 to Sparta, Bienville Parish, Louisiana. He served as Sheriff of Bienville Parish for seventeen years. In 1867, he moved to Red River Parish and then to Bell County, Texas in 1872. He died in 1909 and is buried in the North Belton Cemetery, Belton, Bell Count

Thomas Allen Upshaw served in the Civil War, enlisting in the Louisiana 9th Regiment. He rose to the rank of First Lieutenant and served with Gen Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. After Gen. Jackson's death, he served with Lee's Army of Northern Virgionia until the surrender at Appomattox.
He married Tabitha "Lollie" Lawless 2 Apr 1818 at Elbert County, Georgia . Tabitha "Lollie" Lawless was born at Elbert Co., Georgia 12 Apr 1800 daughter of John Lawless and Tabitha Rowsey .
