Notes:
                       Matthew Knoll Immigrated to the U.S. in 1889 and resided in Frontenac,
    Crawford, KS where he met Anna Wiesenbacher. Matt immigrated because the
    prospect of going into the German Army didn't appeal to him.  Matthew worked in
    the coal mines around Pittsburg, KS, and retired from mining around the time of
    the depression.  During the depression he and Anna lived on a farm east of
    Columbus.  Also living with them from 1928-1930 was their daughter Kathryn,
    husband, Paul, and their daughter, Mary Ann.

    Matthew and Anna lived in the same apartment building in Germany.  Anna
    remembers Matt always pushing her down the stairs.

                       Anna Wiesenbacher immigrated to the U.S. when she was 4 years oldin about 1881.
    She related a story of her passage here to her granddaughter, Mary Ann Webb
    Ginter.  On her way across the ocean, there was a shipwreck.  All the
    passengers were boarded up in one part of the ship so repairs could be made.
    Also, one of ther parents' friends gave her a wooden doll.  On the ship, Anna
    threw the doll overboard so she could see if the doll could swim.
