NOTE: There is a great deal of confusion betweeen this Edward Bates of Boston and Edward Bates of Weymouth, Massachusetts, whose wife was Susanna. Little is known of either, but they were living at the same time and doing things in different places. Edward Bates of Boston, Massachusetts is our emigrant ancestor. He was old when he married Lydia Fairbanks and he died about 1644, as she remarried in 1645.
