    deed  giving land to Pawlet, Vt to son Reuben 12 Feb. 1844

    Letter of Margaret Vandervolgen to Royal Tobey (Believed to be Angelica's 
    Aunt) Toby Ruben from Falmouth, MA 1783 married Rebecca Weeks and settled 
    near timothy Ablens. He was noted for industry and economy and acquired a 
    handsome property. He was one of the deacons of the second Baptist Church.  He
    removed to Pittsford NY 1848 and died in 1851 aged 83. His wife a few  days
    after aged 82. They raised six children Auther, Zenas, Rueben, Sally,  Rebecca
    and Emily. Auther married Abigail daughter Seth Blossom and  removed to
    Pittsford NY. Zenas Married Ruth daughter of Jacob Putnam and  moved to
    Mendon, NY Reuben married Betsey daughter of Jacob Putnam who  died in 1843
    aged 33 leaving 3 children. Next he married Salina Rogers  of Pittsford NY.
    Sally married Seth P Stiles of Auburn NY died in 1851  aged about 63. Emily
    married Joel Simonds and died in 1852 aged 43. I saw  this book out here and

    Newspaper Article  The Tobey and Putnam families are joined by double 
    relationship, two Tobey brothers having married two Putnam sisters, Rueben 
    Tobey Jr. married Betsey Putnam and Zenas Tobey married Ruth Putnam. The  Tobey
    and Putnam families originally embarked from England sometime in  1604. The
    Jacob Putnam family located at Wilton, NH. The Tobeys settled in  the Cape Cod
    country. Rueben Tobey, Sr., was born at Sandwich, Barnstable  county, MA in
    1766. Rebecca Weeks was born in the same county in 1770.  They were married 13
    Dec 1796. As there were no railroads, automobiles,  they saddled their horses
    and followed Indian trails 'cross country and  arrived at Pawlet, VT. They
    settled on a farm among the Green Mountains.  They had three sons and three
    daughters; Arthur, Zenas, Reuben Jr.,  Rebecca, Sally and Emily. The Putnam
    families located in different places.  Jacob Putnam, the 3rd came to Andover,
    VT west of the Connecticut river.  After several years, he settled in Pawlett,
    VT and was connected with a  cotton mill. Next we find him in Chautauqua
    county, NY where he built a  saw mill. He had a family of fourteen children.
    Zenas Tobey, when a young  man, left Pawlet, VT, to find a home in Western NY.
    He located in Mendon,  and in 1833 he went to Westfield, Chautauqua county and
    married Ruth  Putnam and brought her back to Mendon to live. They had three
    children;  Reuben, Squire, and a daughter Harriett. In 1834, Reuben Tobey,
    Jr.,  journeyed by horse and buggy from Pawlet, VT to Westfield, NY and
    married  Betsey Putnam. They returned to Pawlet. They owned a large farm and 
    manufactured many pounds of cheese each year. In 1843, Betsey Tobey died, 
    leaving three children; Julia B. Newcomb, Royal H. Tobey and Merritt P.  Tobey.
    In due time Rueben Tobey, Jr., married a second time, to Miss Flora  Selina
    Rogers of Henrietta, NY. She went to live in Pawlet, VT and after  five years
    Reuben Tobey Sr., and Reuben Jr., sold their 300 acre farm and  all came by
    the Erie canal to Pittsford, NY arriving May 1848. Their first  effort that
    winter was to go into the woods and get out material for a new  house, which
    was finished by Thanksgiving Day 1849. The children of Reuben  Tobey, Jr., by

    BIOGRAPHY: Newspaper article:
    In the will of Reuben Tobey, who died on November 9, 1899, the bulk of the
    estate is left to the widow. The will was made on 14 Aug 1879, and the
    witnesses. L.S. Ford and L.D. Ford, are dead. Flora S. Tobey and Merrit L.
    Tobey are named executors. Two daughters and three sons survive Rueben Tobey,
    the youngest of these being 48 years of age. He left property worth $12,000 in
    real estate and $15,000 in personal property. In a codicil executed eleven
    years after the original will, a bequest of $5,000 is made to his daughter,
    Julia B. Newcomb. In the will she is left the income of this amount.

    BIOGRAPHY: Another newspaper Article: 
    Surrogate Benton yesterday admitted to probate the will of Reuben Tobey, who
    died November 9th last in Pittsford, leaving an estate valued at $27,500, of
    which $12,000 is in reality. Flora S. Tobey, widow, and Merritt H. Tobey, son
    are named as executors. The values of the bequests made were as follows: Flora
    S. Tobey, $500 absolutely, $200 annually and the use of $5,000 for life; Julia
    B. Newcomb, Royal H. Tobey and Merritt P. Tobey, each $2,500 absolutely and
    $1,250 subject to the widow's life estate; Charles R. Tobey and Mary M.
    Burlingame, each $6,500 absolutely and $2,625 subject to the widow's life
