Richard BUTTS
BIOGRAPHY: From a 325th anniversary booklet: Since this is the 325th anniversary year of the coming to America of Richard Butts, the progenitor of this branch of the Butts family, it is fitting that we repeat some of the history you have heard before, add a little new and try to picture what manner of people these ancestors of ours were. Richard Butts came with the Massachusetts Bay colonists in 1630. I have been told that the Butts family came over in the third boat, the "James of Bristol" and that they were from Yorkshire. His first place of settlement is not known but later he went to Dorchester, Mass. He was a sergeant in the Massachusetts Militia and took part in the 1690 expedition against Quebec. He died four years later.
He married Deliverance Hoppin Abt 1672 at of Dorchester, Suffolk, Massachusetts . Deliverance Hoppin was born at of Dorchester, Suffolk, Massachusetts Abt 1648 daughter of Stephen Hoppin and Hannah Makepeace .
