Notes: Hugh Cole came to New England on the "Anne" with his parents. He went to the "Providence Plantation" and purchased 110 acres on Coles River in Rhode Island from King Phillip, the Indian chief. Two of his sons were captured during the Indian War, June 1675, but King Phillip released them because their father was his friend. He advised them to move away quickly. They left within one hour. Their house was in flames. Hugh Cole took the oath of fidelity in 1657 Hugh is buried at Tyler Point Cemetery, now Barrington, Rhode Island Occupation: Shipwright, carpenter, surveyor
