                       EDWARD EPHRAIM MONTAGUE:  (from a single sheet found in Sep 1989 in
    the files and in the handwriting of Vivian E. Haines):
    I, Edward Ephraim Montague, was born April 1st 1866 at Payson, Utah Co,
    Utah.  My parents, Levi West Montague and Elizabeth Ursula Graves
    Montague.
    My father was a shoe maker by trade and had his business in Salt Lake
    City, I understand, in the ZCMI block.  (He) had six men working for him,
    doing well, but Brigham Young called him with others to go and settle
    Payson - not being a farmer did not do so well, but stayed in Payson until
    I was three weeks old then moved to Provo City, Utah, where they lived
    until they passed away É
    (Dictated to me by father.  He wished me to write more but we never got
    at it again - s/Vivian.

                       Notes from 'Short Sketch of Life of Levi West Montague', author not
    known; copied from item in possession of Jacqueline Head Vermillion, a
    Montague cousin, August 1990 (copy filed in HMM 120).  "When the
    Mormons came west, Jane S refused to go so he left her. When her
    youngest son, Wiliam A Montague, was about two years old, she married
    Robert Barnaby. She was not a member of the LDS Church ath this time.
    She was an Episcopalian. Grandfather and G'mother Montague had eleven
    children, all of whom have followed their parents to the great beyond. . ."

    Information on children born has not been transcribed to these records as
    of this date 30 August 1990; the copy of this handwritten material is in
    the HMM 120 file.
